Hinamatsuri
Hinamatsuri is a Japanese traditional festival where we pray for girl’s health and personal growth.
We display Hinaningyo(ひな人形). Most families’ have two dolls == one is a boy doll we call it Odairisama (おだいりさま) and the other doll is a girl doll that we call Ohinasama (おひなさま). We decorate the setting with plastic sakura or peach trees on one sides and a tachibana tree on the other side.
Tachibana is a kind of Japanese orange, similar to mikan.
We also eat Hina-arare. It’s made from rice and sugar and comes in a lot of colors such as white, pink and light green (almost blue).
We eat Chirashizushi (ちらし寿司). It’s not actually sushi but we use a lot of fish sashimi
like salmon, tuna, hamachi. We mix the sashimi with fried egg strips, lotus root and beans called Endoumame. Endoumame is like Edamame but smaller.
My mom makes me Chirashizushi every year and it’s very delicious. I love Hinamatsuri!
